Eve Motionblinds Motors Now Integrate Natively with ABB-free@home® via Matter over Thread
No third-party hardware, one access point system, and a Thread mesh that scales with every installation.
Motionblinds, the smart shading brand of Coulisse, announces native integration of its motors with the ABB-free@home® smart home platform. Motionblinds motors with Eve technology connect directly to the ABB-free@home® System Access Point using Matter over Thread, with the new ABB Thread USB-Stick being the only additional hardware required. The integration is demonstrated live at SuperExpo 2026 in Gold Coast, Australia, June 10 to 12, at Coulisse Booth G3.

Direct integration via the ABB Thread USB-Stick
The ABB Thread USB-Stick plugs into the ABB-free@home® System Access Point (version 2.0 or higher) and, combined with the Matter Controller Add-on, transforms it into a combined Thread Border Router and Matter Controller. This removes the dependency on external hubs such as an Apple HomePod or Google Nest Hub to establish the Thread network. When a smart home hub that creates the Thread network is already present, the Thread USB-Stick is not required.
Once configured, the System Access Point discovers and commissions Eve Motionblinds motors as native Matter devices within ABB-free@home®. Motors are assigned to rooms and included in scenes and schedules alongside lighting, heating, climate, and access control, all managed through the ABB-free@home® Next app or your preferred platform, whether that’s Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, or SmartThings.
On-site control in the SuperExpo demonstration runs through the ABB RoomTouch 4″ wall panel. The Eve Motionblinds CM-50-E-R roller blind motor and CM-51-E curtain motor on show also support dry contact control, providing a conventional wiring option for retrofit projects or where direct switch input is required alongside Matter over Thread connectivity.

Thread mesh architecture: how wired motors extend the network
Thread is a mesh networking protocol designed for smart home and building automation devices. Every powered Thread device can act as a router, forwarding messages for other devices in the network. Eve Motionblinds wired motors are permanently powered and therefore function as Full Thread Devices, actively routing traffic within the mesh.
Each motor installed extends the network's reach and redundancy. In larger installations, this means the Thread mesh becomes more robust as the number of motors increases, with no additional networking infrastructure required.

Full motor range compatibility via Motionblinds Bridge
The integration extends beyond Eve Motionblinds motors. All Motionblinds motors with RF, both wired and battery motors, can be connected to ABB-free@home® via the Motionblinds Matter Wi-Fi Bridge integration. This allows mixed installations, combining the full range of Motionblinds motors across a complete property, to be managed within a single ABB-free@home® environment.
Background: ABB, Eve Systems, and Motionblinds
The integration builds on the relationship established when ABB acquired Eve Systems, the Munich-based company that developed Eve Motionblinds in collaboration with Coulisse and was an early adopter of Matter and Thread technology. That acquisition brought Matter and Thread expertise into the ABB ecosystem and laid the foundation for deeper collaboration between ABB-free@home® and Motionblinds motors. The SuperExpo 2026 demonstration is the latest development in that ongoing partnership.
